Middle Section Activities for Year 2009

->   6th and 7th March 2009    All teachers reported three days in advance from their winter holiday and attended 2 days of Orientation conducted by the Principal Office at Dekyi Tsering hall.
->   9th March 09    Class VIII students attended Opening Ceremony Function at Dekyi Tsering Hall.
->   12th March 09     About 543 students participated in English Writing Competition. Meli from VIIID, Tenzin Lhanzai Samkhar from VII D and Tenzin Wangdu from VI D stood first in their respective classes.
->   13 March 09     Tibetan writing competition was held separately for class VI, VII and VIII respectively. Nyima Gyaltsen from VIIID, Lobsang Yeshe from VII D and Tenzin Sherap from VI D won the first prize in their respective classes.
->   16th March 09     Inter-class Boys and girls Basket Ball practice was started.
->   17 March 09     About 50 students were involved in the practice of Hindi patriotic song every evening in preparation for ‘ Thank You India Day’ which falls on 31 March 09
->   21 March 09     Class VIII D gave a brief power point presentation on the topic, “ Non Violence Mass Movement in Tibet and Appeal by HH The Dalai Lama”.
->   24 March 09     A presentation entitled “ You Think You are the Scientist “ was introduced /started by Middle School Science Department members during the morning assembly.
->   26 March 09     All the staff members and the students attended a power point presentation on “ How to prepare for eventual earthquakes in the schools ” being organized by Department of Information, Dharamsala.
->   28 March 09     Class VIII S gave an interesting power point presentation on “ Non violent protest on 10th March 09 by the Tibetans in exile and an appeal by HH The Dalai Lama”. 21 students participated in the presentation.
->   29 March 09     To acquire skill in letter writing and to befriend students in sister TCV schools, a letter writing exchange program on a fortnightly basis was started with TCV Gopalpur and TCV Lower. The responses are awesome and we get to see a great improvement in their letter writing skill. About 134 students from Class VIII and VII were involved.
->   31 March 09    On the occasion of 50th anniversary of our exile in India, two students ( Rabsel and Gyatso ) gave a befitting presentation on Tibetan system of dialectics before HH The Dalai Lama at the main temple.
->   31 March 09     50 students from our section sang a patriotic song at the glittering ceremony held at the main temple to mark 50th Anniversary of our exile in India and to observe “ Thank You India Day.”
->   31 March 09     Class VIII Boy’s Dialectic ( Riglam ) contest was held.
->   01 Apr 09     Inter Class Basket Ball Match for Boys and Girls were started.
->   01 Apr 09     Tibetan version of Tibetan spelling Bee ( Dhagsa Mongsel) was held . 513 students were able to participate in it
->   02 Apr 09     The second episode of YTYS was done during the morning assembly.
->   02 Apr 09     To help weaker students in their difficult subjects, a group of academically sound students were asked to help the weaker students on a voluntary basis after the evening classes are over. The said peer teaching started from 2nd April to 15 May 09. The duration of the peer teaching was one hour under the direct supervision of school career counselor.
->   03 Apr 09     VIII B put up an interesting power point presentation entitled “Mind and Life” in which 19 students have actively participated in it.
->   04 April 09     To coincide with the ‘World Disaster Day’ the entire school staff members and students participated in Mock Earthquake drill conducted by DIIR in the morning
->   04 April 09     All the staff members attended a workshop on Census after the class in the evening at Dekyi Tsering Hall organized by the Settlement Officer, Dharamshala
->   06th April 09     Tibetan Reading month was observed from 6th Apr to 24th May 09 as an exercise to acquire the reading habit and to bring improvement in students' reading skill .
->   07th April 09     To observe World Health Day, Mr Lobsang Dhondup, a teacher cum member of School Health Committee gave a talk on ‘ Health and Hygiene’ during the morning assembly followed by area cleaning and water tank cleaning in the evening.
->   08 Apr 09     Second round of Middle School YTYS was held during the morning assembly.
->   08 Apr 09     Class VI English Drama practice began in the evening after the class.
->   09 Apr 09     First round of Middle School Idol ( Dhen yang Phul jung ) was held. About 154 voluntarily participated in the competition. 60 students were later selected for the second round of the competition
->   11 Apr 09     Class VIII P gave a presentation on “ Pathoen Lopdra and Sambhota Tibetan schools in India. About 18 students were involved in the presentation.
->   12 Apr 09     The entire staff members were on deputation on that day as Census Officer by the Settlement Officer, Mcleodganj. They conducted census recording of the entire UTCV staff members and the students on the same day.
->   13 April 09     Final of the class VI Boy’s and Girl’s Basket ball match was held
->   14th April 09     Final of the class VII Boy’s and Girl’s Basket ball match was played
->   14th April 09     Third round of Middle School YTYS was held by the Science Department members during the morning assembly.
->   15th April 09     Finals of the class VIII Boy’s and the Girl’s Basket Ball match were played.
->   16th April 09     Second round of The Middle School Idol was held. 30 students were selected out of 60 selected candidates.
->   17 Apr 09     Inter class soccer competition began.
->   18 Apr 09     The second round of Tibetan version of Spelling Bee( Dhak sa Mongsel ) was held. 170 students selected students sit for the said test.
->   20 Apr 09     5 monks from Institute of Buddhist Dialectic were invited to teach basics of Tibetan Buddhist Dialectic system to class VI students during the VI period for the entire one month ( 20 Apr to 20 May 09) . About 186 students were involved in learning.
->   20 Apr 09     To implement HH The Dalai Lama’s wishes and as a follow up measure to EDC resolution, Tibetan Dialectic period was introduced in our academic curriculum for the first time. 7th period was always observed as dialectic period so that every one will get lion’s share in practicing dialects under the close supervision of the 2 subject teachers for each classes.
->   20 Apr 09     Second English Essay Writing Competition was organized by the English Department.
->   21 Apr 09     Fourth round of Middle school YTYS was held in the morning assembly.
->   22 Apr 09     Final of the Class VI Boy’s Soccer Championship was held.
->   23 Apr 09     Final of the class VII Boys Soccer Championship was held.
->   23 Apr 09     Third round of Middle School Idol was held. Ten top Tibetan singers were selected.
->   24 Apr 09     Final of the class VIII Boy’s Soccer Championship was held.
->   25th Apr 09     Girl’s soccer practice began
->   26th Apr 09     All the English teachers attended a workshop on “How to access the papers relating with English unit test, home works and term test, conducted by Mrs Yeshi Dolkar, TCV English Resource Person.
->   27 Apr 09     Fourth round of Middle School Idol was held in which 23 students were given wild card entry to prove their skill in singing Tibetan songs. 10 top singers were selected.
->   28 Apr 09     Fifth round of the Middle school YTYS was held.
->   29th April 09     Final of the Girl’s Soccer Match was held.
->   30th April 09     About 125 students from class VII and VIII students took part in the environment related voting entitled ‘Kaun Banega Bharat ka Paryavaran Ambassador?’ being organized by Nehru Foundation for Development, Gujarat.
->   30 April 09     Final of the class VIII Girl’s Tibetan Dialectic contest( Riglam) was held.
->   31st April 09     Class VI Inter Section English drama entitled ‘ The Pied Piper of Hamelin’ was held in Herman Gmiener Hall. About 123 students have actively participated in the said drama. VI D walked away with a handsome prize followed by VI P
->   01 May 09     Semifinal round of Tibetan Spelling Bee( Dhak sa Mong sel ) was held. Top 30 students were selected out of seventy selected students in a run up for final round of Tibetan Spelling Bee which will take place in the third week of June 09.
->   05 May 09     6th round of YTYS was held in the morning assembly by the Science faculty members.
->   06 May 09     Under the sole initiative of our career teacher, Mrs Tsering Choedon, a mock interview relating with stream choices and personality development was arranged for the entire class VIII students so that they can be well equipped to face any interviews in the near future.
->   9 May 09     A morning presentation entitled “Desertification of Tibetan Plateau” was put up by class VIII G. About 25 students participated in the presentation.
->   11 May 09     Semi -Final round of Middle School idol was held in the evening in Herman Gmeiner Hall. Each candidates was given a chance to sing four different Tibetan songs accompanied by traditional Tibetan music and track songs To involve maximum number of students and the staff members and to create interest in Tibetan songs, every student and the staff members of Middle School were allowed to cast their vote against their best singer. Based on the judges' points accompanied by voter’s choice, the ranking was given to select five top singers who will be competing against each other on 17th of June 09.
->   12 May 09     Final of the class VII Boy’s Tibetan Dialectic(Riglam) contest was held in Dekyi Tsering Hall in the evening.
->   12th May 09     8th round of YTYS was held in the morning assembly
->   13th May 09     50 students and 10 staff members were involved in the practice of Hindi patriotic song entitled ‘Sonai ke chediya’, which is to be sung during the opening ceremony of GCM Soccer Tournament on 31st May as part of good will gesture to mark 50th year in exile and to thank India for their kind generosity towards the Tibetans in exile.
->   13th May 09     Final results of Middle School Idol ( Dhin yang Phul jung ) was announced in the morning assembly at Herman Gmeiner Hall amidst great excitement and fun. Mrs Sonam Dolkar, The Principal of our school attended the glittering function as guest of honour.
->   15 May 09     Ven Pema Dorjee , an ex Pricipal of our school was invited to give a talk on education related value education followed by question answer session at Dekyi Tsering in the evening.
->   18 May 09     Last round of the YTYS ( First season )was held for the class VIII students in the morning assembly by the science faculty members.
->   14 June 09     The staff and the students are happy to have Geshe lobsang Dakpa la, a religious instructor from the Institute of Buddhist School of Dialects on every Saturday evening with us. He gave s series of teachings to our staff and the students. His teaching motivated and built a firm foundation on the basic tenets and principles of Buddhism. The question answer session after the teaching was very interactive and addressed many doubtful questions the students have on Buddhism.
->   15th June 09     Under 12 TCV Soccer Club Under the watchful eye and experienced coaching by Mr Lobsang Norbu, PTI Middle School, TCV Upper Under 12 Soccer Club was officially formed for the first time in our school. The said club is affiliated to Tibetan National Sporting Federation. The aim and objective of forming the club is to hone their talent and to catch them young so that they can become a professional soccer player. After undergoing series of selection round, 20 students were finally selected and underwent tough training for the entire second term in the evening. To expose them to different conditions and teams, they participated in Inter Tibetan School Under 12 Soccer Competition being organized by Tibetan National Sporting Federation. Six Tibetan schools in Himachal region participated in it.
->   15th June 09     Class VII Girl’s final Dialectic Competition was held at Dekyi Tsering. Ngawang Choedon from VIII G stood first.
->  16th June     Inter Class English Drama The objective behind stage performance is to inculcate in our children self confidence and to develop fluency in the language. In order to engage maximum number of students and to provide fair chance to all, we conducted Inter Class English Drama Competition for class VI, VII and VIII.Grade . Class VI students staged a play entitled "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" followed by class VII play entitled "Greta and the Prince" Class VIII students put up a very good play titled "Bishop's Candle Stick" The plays were taught by the English teachers and about 360 students participated in it. We saw lot of enthusiasm amongst the students and such activities help bring out the creative skills and hidden talents in the children.
->   17th June 09     Middle School Idol 2009 First round of Middle School Idol ( Dhen yang Phul jung ) was held on 09 Apr 09.This is the first ever competition in TCV school. The idea behind this competition is not only to hone their inherent talent but also to built stage confidence and create interest in singing Tibetan song.. About 154 students voluntarily participated in the competition. The program consist of specialized round where each singers were given four different songs of their choice accompanied by traditional Tibetan music and track songs.The program made use of latest skills and facilities in the computer application.

To involve maximum number of students and the staff members and to add colour to the competition, every student and the staff members of Middle School were allowed to cast their vote against their best singer. Based on the judges' points accompanied by voter’s choice, the ranking was given to select five top singers . On 17th of June 09 the grand finale of Upper TCV Middle School Idol 2009( Dhin yang Phul jung ) was held in the evening at Herman Gmeiner Hall amidst great excitement and fun.

Mr .Paljor Tsering, Health Kalon from the Dept of Health, CTA attended the glittering grand finale as guest of honour. The Chief Guest lauded the staff and the students for their wonderful work. Since it was a huge success the Middle School Idol was made available for the public also. About 350 people from all walks of life came to watch the grand finale despite inclement weather on that evening. Tenzin Gyurme from class VI P was adjudged as Middle school Idol for the year 2009 followed by Tsewang Lhamo and Lobsang Chophel from VIII G. Tenzin Gyurme walked away with a whooping cash price of Rs 3000/ and a handsome gift hamper. The program was sponsored by Punjab National Bank, Dal Road. With this competition, we saw lot of healthy changes and now we get to see many students actively participating in the forthcoming TCV Idol 2009 during the 49th School Anniversary.
->   17 June 09     Photography Club Photo Exhibition at TCV Culture Centre Since some years, the need of a culture Centre was felt necessary and important for various reasons. Now this centre is in place. Nothing could have been more befitting than organizing unique photo exhibition by TCV Middle School Photography Club. Many professional photographer and lover of photography visited the exhibition hall. The exhibition remained open for two days so that maximum number of students can learn from it.
->  20th June     Parent Teacher Meeting First phase of Parent Teacher Meeting was held in the school assembly ground. About 171 parents from Mcleod, Gangchen Kyishong, Lower Dharamshala and Norbulingka attended the said meeting. The response was overwhelming and fruitful.The second phase of the PTA meeting was held on 4th July. This meeting is particularly for those students who have no parents or near and dear ones around them. Their foster mothers and teacher mentors attended the meeting. The idea behind this is to let each children feel that there is someone at their back to care and look after them
->   01 July 09     Middle School Spelling Bee 2009 This is one of the much awaited literary program of the school where the selection and sieving of the student are done throughout the year with the 10 finalist participating during the final Middle School Spelling Bee Contest 2009. The teacher worked around the clock in finding the best speller of the year. First round of English Spelling Bee was held in new hall. The entire students from class VI, VII and VIII participated in it.The final of the Middle School Spelling Bee 2009 will take place in the last week of September.
->   6th July 09     His Holiness Dalai Lama's 74th Birth Day Celebration His Holiness The Dalai Lama's 74th Birth Anniversary was celebrated in Middle school assembly ground. The program include - All the students attended the Sangsol at the main temple in the traditional Tibetan dress followed by a colorful function, talent round, girls and boys soccer match and sweet distribution. Special meal and drinks were also arranged on that day. The idea behind organizing all the above program is to let the student feel that His Holiness Birth day is very special in their life.
->   25 July 09     Tibetan Spelling Competition ( Dhakcha Mong Sel ) The very idea of conducting Tibetan spelling competition “Dhag cha Mong sel” in Middle School was to develop proficiency in Tibetan language.Unlike other languages, Tibetan spelling is very complex and vast and it plays a vital role in the making of Tibetan language. As practised in Tibet, it need to be honed at a very young age. To give maximum chance to the maximum number of students, we issued a spelling glossary (active verbs) to each and every students so as to encourage them to compete on equal footing. It was followed by 9 knock out round of spelling contest The final round of Tibetan spelling was held on 7th Oct in Herman Gmeiner Hall. Tenzin Yangchen from VIII D stood first and proudly walked away with a whooping cash prize of Rs 1000 and a handsome gift hamper. It was the second year of Tibetan spelling contest held in our school. Given the fact that it was a huge success, it was decided to make it as one of the important event marking Thank you India .50 years of Exile- Tibet Experience.
->   22nd June     Inter Class Tibetan Elocution was held on 17 June 08 at Delki Tsering Hall.The contest consist of three category i,e poetry recitation, dramatic extract and speech delivery. Class VII 'D'stood first followed by VII 'S'
->   13 July     Inter Class English Elocution Contest Inter Class English Elocution was held on 23 June at Dekyi Tsering Hall The competition was stiff and we could involve many students in it.
->   18 July 09     Class VIII students were also engaged in cleaning and planting trees around Dal Lake in the morning and the evening for two successive days.
->   28 July 09     English Writing Workshop Mr Chophel, The Asst Head Master of Middle School along with 3 English teachers from Sambhota school attended 5 days English workshop on effective writing in Delhi British School. Upon returning from the workshop, he briefed other English teachers on the latest skills and activities in teaching creative writing.
->   11 August 09     Dal Lake Clean drive Due to siltation and deposition of mud , the entire Dal lake dried up. To lend helping hand to the locals as well as to inculcate dignity of labour and community sense, all the staff members of TCV in turn involved in clearing the mud from Dal Lake despite the inclement weather condition.
->   23 Aug 09     Inter TCV Tibetan Declamation Contest 4 students participated in Inter TCV Tibetan declamation Contest for Middle and Junior school level on the theme “ 50 Year of Exile. Tibet Experience” It was held in TCV Chauntra. Five schools participated and we walked away with third position.
->   1st to 3rd Sept     Creative Writing Week To celebrate Creative Writing Week, the entire students of Middle Section participated in Tibetan Creative Writing Competition being organized by TCV Head Office. English Creative Writing was also held next day. About 502 students participated in it.
->   17 Sept 09     A talk on “Politics and propaganda in Modern Tibetan Songs” was organized at Herman Gmeiner Hall in the evening. Miss Amalia , a research student from New York University who traveled and stayed many years in Tibet explained how the Chinese media are using the modern Tibetan songs for propaganda purposes. The talk was very enlightening and entertaining as she sang some modern Tibetan songs in typical Tibetan fashion.
->   25th Sept     Inter class Tibetan Debate Tibetan Debate was held on 25th Sept on the topic "50 years in exile proved very beneficial to the Tibetan” VIII ' D' stole the whole show. Since the topic was very interesting, many students from the audience stood up and spoke on the matter.
->   28th Sept     Inter Class English Debate Inter class English Debate was organized on the topic “TCV schools should have separate homes for boys and the girls." VIII D won the first prize.
->   30th Sept     Tibetan Dialectic Contest The second year of Middle school Tibetan dialectic contest was held in Gmeiner Hall.The objective of the contest is to emphasize the Tibetan traditional form of learning(Tsenyi) which is based on verbal debate and reasoning, the importance of which has been stressed by HH The Dalai Lama. HH the Dalai Lama has repeatedly emphasized the need to start in Tibetan schools so that the students can develop reasoning temperament thereby help sharpen their brain. To achieve firm grounding and give a good beginning, The Institute of Buddhist School of Dialect, Dharamsala deputed 16 monks to teach Buddhist dialects to our school on every Saturday for one hour for the entire Second term . As a follow up measure each class have competed with other class on every Thursday during the morning assembly and every 7th period. We also conducted inter class dialectic contest for grade VI, VII and VIII and the best four students were sent to TCV Lower Dharamshala for Inter TCV School Debate Contest in the first week of Nov 09
->   17 Sept 09     Two days workshop for teachers on Instructional strategies in Maths and Science subject. Two days demonstration lesson on effective teaching for all teachers was organized by Middle School Science and Mathematic teachers. The main objective was sharing of acquired skills and to develop competency in child centered teaching. The workshop made the participants familiar with a variety of ideas for instructional strategies particularly in Mathematics and Science subject. The responses were positive and all the participants deeply appreciated the course.
->   21 Sept 09     Global Vote for the World’s Children’s Prize For the Right of the Child ( WCPRC) The entire Middle school student participated in the global vote for the World’s Children’s Prize For the Right of the Child (WCPRC) where children of the world are given the right and the responsibility to cast votes to choose 13 global candidate who they deemed made the most outstanding contribution towards delivering children their right. To represent the global candidate for WCPRC in a democratic way, 13 students volunteered to personify the 13 global candidate.

->   21 Sept 09     The actual practice for Inter House Marathon Race was started on Monday the 21st Sept 09. The marathon consist of three different division for boys and girls respectively. About 150 students from different Houses participated in it.
->   30 Sept 09     Inter Class Tibetan Group Song competition Inter Class Tibetan Group Song Competition was held from 30th Sept 09 to 02 Oct 09. The idea behind organizing this competition is not only to develop taste for Tibetan songs and music alone but to inculcate team spirit and sense of belonging to the student. Each class must put up/ learn to play minimum 10 traditional Tibetan musician. 16 classes participated in the competition and each class must come out with different Tibetan group songs. With this competition, we now have handful of students who can play different traditional Tibetan musical instrument and songs as well.
